Trading continuity
Keeping your bar trading during a beer-system upgrade
Plan a beer-system upgrade around your venue’s trading needs, with staged work, a clear changeover and temporary bar options where suitable.

Make trading continuity part of the brief
If your venue needs to stay open during an upgrade, say so before the installation scope is settled. Identify the service areas you need, the events already booked and the times when disruption would be most difficult. The contractor can then discuss the work sequence against those requirements. Leaving continuity until the final week makes it harder to organise a practical alternative.
Separate the venue into service priorities
List the main bar, function spaces, outdoor areas and any other dispensing points. Decide which are essential on each trading day and which could be unavailable during a defined work window. Share the plan with the bar manager, builder and beer-system contractor. Staged work may be possible, but it depends on how the existing equipment and services are connected; confirm that before promising uninterrupted service.
Consider a temporary serving point early
A temporary bar may help maintain a service point while permanent work proceeds. It still needs a suitable location, access and an agreed operating arrangement. Discuss the expected demand, product range, keg handling and the services needed by the proposed equipment. Confirm who supplies each item and who sets up, operates and packs down the bar. A hire booking should form part of the trading plan, rather than sit beside it as an afterthought.
Protect time for the changeover
Allow a defined period for installation, checks and handover before the next important service. Ask who authorises the permanent system to return to use and how the team will be told it is ready. If building works run late, establish who reviews the impact on the bar plan. The useful question is not simply when equipment will arrive, but when the venue can confidently serve through it.
Brief the people who will run the temporary arrangement
Give staff a simple explanation of the available taps, stock location, cleaning responsibilities and service contact. Review access for keg changes and supplies, and make sure the temporary arrangement does not conflict with the construction area. After the permanent system returns to operation, update the team again. Clear communication helps prevent an otherwise well-planned upgrade from becoming confusing during service.
Discuss your upgrade and hire dates
Beer Works offers commercial mobile bar hire for venues and events across South East Queensland, alongside beer-system installation. Tell us your location, work dates, affected service areas and expected demand. We can discuss hire availability and whether a temporary bar could suit your project. For wider building coordination, see our venue renovation guide.
