Commercial beer system installation checklist
The key decisions that should be settled before a pub, club, hotel or brewery installs a draught beer system.

Start with demand, not equipment
A commercial beer system should be designed around how the venue will trade. Tap count alone does not define the duty. Product mix, peak hourly demand, keg turnover, service points, bar layout and the distance from the keg room to each font all affect the correct solution.
Establish the operating brief before choosing chillers, python, pumps or fonts. A system sized from a generic equipment schedule can pour acceptably during quiet periods yet fail when the venue reaches its actual peak.

Confirm the keg room and services
The keg room is part of the dispensing system, not simply a storage area. Its design affects product temperature, keg changes, hygiene, technician access and refrigeration load. Door use, ambient heat, lighting and stock movement must be considered.
Confirm electrical supply, drainage, ventilation, water, gas-cylinder location and safe access early. Late changes to any of these can force compromises in refrigeration performance or installation quality.
Coordinate the complete product path
Every component between the keg and glass must work as one system. Product line diameter, vertical lift, total run length, python configuration, glycol temperature and gas pressure must be selected together.
Coordinate penetrations, cable paths, pipe routes and bar joinery before walls and ceilings close. This is where a specialist installer working with the builder prevents rework and avoids inaccessible connections.
Specify commissioning and handover
Commissioning should verify temperatures, circulation, pressure, product flow and operation at every tap. The venue should receive clear isolation points, operating instructions and a record of the installed components.
Handover should also establish cleaning responsibility, service contacts and planned-maintenance tasks. A system is not complete when it is merely switched on; it is complete when the venue can operate and maintain it reliably.
Protect future serviceability
Allow room around chillers, pumps, manifolds and control equipment. Components that cannot be inspected or removed without dismantling a bar will cost more to service for the life of the venue.
Ask the installer to identify critical spares and likely wear items. A modest stock of correct seals, tap parts and pump components can prevent a small fault becoming a prolonged outage.
