Energy efficiency for beer and glycol systems
Where hospitality venues can reduce energy use without compromising product temperature or reliability.

Start with heat entering the system
Energy performance improves when the refrigeration system has less unwanted heat to remove. Repair damaged insulation, door seals and vapour barriers before changing controls.
Keep product routes away from heat sources and prevent hot condenser discharge air from recirculating into equipment.
Maintain heat exchangers and airflow
Dirty condensers and evaporators force equipment to run longer and at higher pressure. Cleaning frequency should reflect the environment, including kitchen grease, dust and outdoor exposure.
Fans and ventilation paths must remain clear. A plant room that traps heat can undermine otherwise efficient equipment.
Match operation to genuine demand
Review setpoints, schedules and standby arrangements with a competent technician. Avoid arbitrary temperature reductions; colder settings increase energy use and may create control or freezing problems.
Where loads vary significantly, staged equipment or variable control may be worthwhile, but only when the hydraulic and refrigeration design supports it.
Protect pump efficiency
Incorrect glycol concentration, restrictions and poorly selected pumps increase pumping energy. Leaks and air in the circuit can reduce flow while the pump continues to run.
Maintain the intended fluid condition and investigate noisy or continuously operating pumps.
Measure before investing
Use run-hour, temperature and energy data to identify where the system is working hardest. Compare like periods and account for trading volume and weather.
Replace equipment where the efficiency and reliability case is supported by evidence, not merely because a newer model is available.
Do not trade reliability for a small saving
Turning critical cooling off overnight or raising temperatures without understanding product and recovery requirements can create larger losses at opening.
The best efficiency measures reduce waste heat and restore design performance. Product quality and trading continuity remain the primary constraints.
