Venue takeovers
Taking over a pub? Assess the beer system before your first busy service
Taking over a pub, club or bar? Learn what to ask about the existing beer system, service history and immediate priorities before your first busy service.

Find out what you are inheriting
A working tap during a walkthrough tells you very little about the system behind the bar. When taking over a venue, ask for a practical picture of its condition, service history and recurring problems. The aim is to separate equipment that can keep serving from work that needs attention before you start trading. That makes your opening plan more useful than a list of equipment names.
Ask the outgoing team about busy periods
Speak to the people who use the system. Which taps cause trouble? Does pouring change during functions or weekend service? Has any equipment been isolated or taken out of use? Ask about repeat call-outs and temporary fixes. These conversations are leads for an assessment, rather than proof of a fault, but they help direct attention to the parts of the system that matter most to your operation.
Collect the records you will need
Request recent service reports, cleaning records, equipment details and available system drawings. Establish who owns or supplies the installed equipment and who has been looking after it. Identify the current service contacts and any arrangements you need to continue or replace. Keep this information together so your bar manager and service contractor do not have to reconstruct the system history during a breakdown.
Get a condition assessment before choosing replacements
Ask a beer-system technician to assess the existing installation against your proposed use. Discuss the keg-room refrigeration, glycol cooling, product lines, gas equipment and dispensing points as a connected system. If you plan to change the product range, add taps or reopen a closed bar, include that in the brief. Avoid committing to equipment replacements before you know what the existing system needs.
Turn the findings into an opening plan
Ask for priorities you can act on: work needed before service, items to schedule next, and longer-term replacement considerations. Agree who is responsible for line cleaning and who handles mechanical maintenance. Brief the bar team on the service contact and the information to record if a problem appears. A clear plan gives you a better starting point than simply inheriting the previous operator’s routine.
Arrange support for your venue takeover
Beer Works provides beer-system servicing and repairs across South East Queensland. Tell us the venue location, takeover date and any planned changes. We can discuss an assessment and the support your operation needs. If you are also changing the bar layout, read our venue renovation guide before the building work is finalised.
